History
The museum was founded in 1916 by an association, de Vereeniging Dutch Historical Shipping Museum. From 1922, the date of the opening of the building, until 1975 this association was also organization that supports the museum, the Nederlandsch Historisch Scheepvaart Museum (abbreviation NHSM and since the 1990s mostly VNHSM).
